The District 12-O Organizational Meeting
The meeting was held on August 11, 2007 at the First
Southern Baptist Church in Pikeville, TN.
DG Bill Stuart welcomed all the clubs in attendance
and called the meeting to order.
DG Bill Stuart said “We Serve” each Lion can be a humanitarian.
DG Bill Stuart gave the invocation to the meeting.
VDG Marvin Keener led the pledge.
2007-2008 District 12-O Cabinet Officers are District
Governor Bill Stuart, Vice District Governor Marvin
Keener, Treasurer Jerry Don Moss & Secretary Barbara
Blansett.
At the meeting, a total of nineteen clubs were present
with 78 total.
DG Bill Stuart called the clubs out in attendance.

DG Bill Stuart passed out a notebook for corrections
on the Official Directory.
PDG Irl Farden thanked all the fellow Lions for their
support this past year with the district.
PDG Irl Farden presented several awards.
DG Bill Stuart read a report from the Past Treasurer
Bill George which summarized the District finances as
of June 30, 2007. Actual income and expenses for the
2006-07 were $28,305.
Treasurer Jerry Don Moss presented the budget for
2007-08 with an estimated income and expenses of
$31,743. The proposed budget was approved by vote.
The motion was made by Hugh Marlin. The motion was
seconded by Charlie Watson.
White Cane Chairman John Eason from Bledsoe Lions
reported that White Cane donations by the District
12-O clubs in 2006-07 totaled $41,636.35 which is an
increase of $415 from the previous year. The goal for
2007-08 is a total of $50,000 and can be reached if
all clubs donate at least $40 per member.
The Chattanooga Downtown club presented a check for
$200.00. King Lion John tucker presented a check for
$2,000 on behalf of the Meigs County Lions for White
Cane to Lion Chair John Eason.
Please bring White Cane Check to the District
Convention. Each club should have a White Cane
chairperson. Also, each club can advertise in the
local newspaper on White Cane events.
DG Bill Stuart stated that goals for the district
which will include a Net gain of two members by all of
the 39 clubs. The second goal will be to add two new
clubs in the district. Lion Ed Elliott from South
Pittsburg is working to build a club in Whitwell, TN.
DG Bill Stuart is looking for a Lion to work on a club
in Ooltewah, TN. President Janet Simmons of the
Sweetwater club will work on building a club in
Ooltewah, TN. If the following two goals are met then
the district membership will be above the 1,250 level.
PDG David Bradford reported his is building files with
the history of District 12-O. He needs all PDG’s to
report on their terms as governor. This will be a
Lions history project.
Keith Pontius reported the Fairfield Glade will
welcome newly elected IP Bill Watkins on August 20th
and invited all clubs to attend. Fairfield Glade will
host the District 12-0 Fall conference on October 13th
the FG community church. Keith stated it was great
to see this turn out from the nineteen clubs however,
we need to get the other clubs to attend.
VDG Marvin Keener announced there would be a training
workshop after lunch. The training session was held
for Region and Zone chairmen after the District
meeting. The Region and Zone Chairmen will be the
point people to make the final push to achieve the
District’s goal of $172,000. Fifteen out of the 39
clubs have made donations to the Campaign Sight First
II. All clubs will be asked to evaluate the potential
in their club and community. A lot of clubs are
sleepy and missing the boat. The Lions need to jump
aboard because that is what Lions do is help others.
VDG Marvin also talked about Merlow training in
leadership retention. The date has not yet been
determined . You are the leaders the buck stops with
you and we need to be excited about the Lions.
David Kosking was present selling pins from the
International Convention. The small pins were $2.00 each
and large pins were $3.00 each.
PDG Pam Stanks was in attendance for the White County
club.
PDG Virgil Karnatz spoke on how to increase your
membership. Every club has a different personality.
Fellow Lions need to be proud of the past. We need to
have membership drives. We need to go forward with
the future and increase membership we serve.
Lion Jack McDaniel stressed the importance of new
member orientations. It is important to build but also
to retain members. He will schedule a new member
orientation meeting on September 15th at 8:30am in
Bledsoe county. All Lions are welcome to attend.
Lion Joy Callahon reported that the District Governors
contest will add a new Division for clubs with 50 plus
members. Since there are only four such clubs in the
District we hope all will participate. Lion Joy has
distributed the monthly activity report to all club
secretaries. Secretaries can submit the report to her
by regular mail or email. The District community
serve awards will go out in December and awarded in
March.
PDG Barbara Health reported Lion Quest held two
training sessions in the District in 2006-07 and
trained over 50 teachers. MD-12 has received matching
funds grant from LCIF for Lions Quest for 2007-08
which is the third year in row. It is highly unusual
to receive a grant for 3 years. All clubs are asked
to donate $75-100 for Lions Quest.
PDG Hugh Marlin reported the MD-12 operation Kidsight
Outreach has received matching funds from LCIF that
will enable the purchase of 34 sure sight Instruments
and continue vision screening with the latest
equipment. He will schedule training with the new
instrument later this year. SureSight is not a camera
but an instrument.
Lion Wanda Clouse reported on Diabetes Awareness.
Diabetes effects the whole body. There are two
different types of Diabetes I and II. Diabetes can
effect you body with eye problems, nerve damage,
clots, foot problem & many others. A diabetic must
watch their diet.
Lion Jerry Pala is doing an excellent job with the
District newsletter. Lion Jerry thanked PDG Keith
Pontius & Barbara Health for there help of proof
reading.
Treasure Jerry Don Moss received a total of $2,350 in
White Cane money.
Lion Janet Simmons reported the Sweetwater Lions club
will be hosting a Car show with the Shriner’s. The
show will be on August 25th.
Lookout Valley Lions club will be hosting a annual
golf event on September 15th. The start time will be
8:30am & the cost per person will be $65.00.
